SMITH TOWER
Seattle, WA
OVERVIEW
Located at the iconic peak of Seattle’s historic Smith Tower, this penthouse renovation blends modern living with the preservation of a landmark structure. Originally used as the building’s water tank before later becoming an apartment, the space was re-imagined into a contemporary residence designed by Graham Baba Architects and built by Valor Builds.
The project required careful coordination due to limited access, the absence of a freight elevator, and material size restrictions. Custom walnut joinery, blackened steel, and richly stained oak create a sophisticated palette that honors the tower’s history while introducing modern craftsmanship.
